Police said the accident occurred at 12:42 a.m. when a vehicle traveling north on Kensington Avenue struck the family’s vehicle, which was eastbound on Hunting Park Avenue.

Police said Jeffione Thomas pedaled up to an unmarked police vehicle, pulled out a gun and started firing multiple times on Sharpnack Street Friday night in the city’s Cedarbrook section.

Four of the shootings involved fatalities. One of the dead had just attended a vigil for a 20-year-old man killed earlier this month in an East Mount Airy shooting, police said.

Victor Manue Senquiz, 29, of Philadelphia, initially fled the scene at West Allegheny Avenue and Rosehill Street but returned and was arrested, police said.

About 10 people were present at the party in Edgewater Park, but no one else was shot, authorities said. The deaths have been declared homicides.

The victims were each shot multiple times in the head, police said.

It is the second such declaration of the summer and takes effect noon Monday and continues until at least 8 p.m. Tuesday, with heat indexes of 100 to 104 degrees expected.
